The work of the Family Life / Social Concerns of the council is to help all members of the parish recognize that working for community needs is as essential to the life of the parish as is preaching the Word of God and celebrating the Eucharist. This commission should emphasize the role of awareness and involvement of all members of the parish.
Functions:
To respond to the immediate social welfare needs of the people.
To develop a strong education program that will inform parishioners about the human needs of people as well as educate them on social issues.
To work to relive the causes of social problems and immediate needs. This will mean striving to make systems, such as government and education, more responsive to people.
To assess community needs of the parish, neighborhood, and the city.
To develop cooperative programs regarding concern for social justice with other commissions of the council.
To cooperate with other groups and denomination to meet needs throughout the community, the country, and the world.
