Religious Education Volunteer Opportunities

Catechist

The St. Joseph Parish Religious Education/Faith Formation program relies on catechists to lead our K-8 students in learning more about the Catholic faith. Our catechists support the children’s primary teachers, their parents/guardians, through weekly faith formation on a variety of topics related to the faith. Catechists must be 25-years of age or older or be a certified teacher in the state of Kansas. They must complete Safe Environment training and pass a background check prior to volunteering.

Substitute Catechist

The St. Joseph Parish Religious Education/Faith Formation program often needs substitute teachers who can fill in for our primary catechists when they must miss one of our weekly classes. Substitute Catechists must be 25-years of age or older or be a certified teacher in the state of Kansas. They must complete Safe Environment training and pass a background check prior to volunteering. The primary catechist will plan the lesson and you will just need to teach from the book. All material will be provided.

Religious Education Classroom Aide

Adults who are the second person in the classroom to help supervise children in Kindergarten through 8th Grade. This person is not the primary catechist. Religious Education Classroom Aides must be 18-years of age or older. They must complete Safe Environment training and pass a background check prior to volunteering.
