Unsere Leute - Unseere Heimat 150 Years: A Celebration of Faith & Community
On Sunday, August 2nd, we will join the people in Ellis County, Kansas, as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Volga Germans who came to this area in 1876, especially those who helped to build the parish of St. Joseph.  Festivities will begin with the 10:30am Mass with Bishop Vincke as the main celebrant.  Following the Mass, there will be a pot luck in the Kennedy Cafeteria.  Parishioners and those attending are asked to bring their favorite desserts, salads or a main dish to share.  Karl Meis will be providing music of the Volga Germans in Polka, waltzes and other fun music for you to listen or dance to.  The Ellis County Historical Society will be having a table, selling 150th anniversary t-shirts, books and various other items.  This is all part of a year long event leading up to the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia International Convention in Hays, beginning on August 5 - 7 at the Hilton Gardens.   Come join us as we celebrate the heritage of the Volga Germans in faith, food and song!
